I came across this Tchami video recently and it reminded me of the beauty of Miami, inspiring this blog post.
This set occurred on December 18, 2020 at One Thousand Museum, a high-rise residential condo on the coast overlooking downtown Miami and Miami Beach. They provide excellent drone footage of the vistas as well as a beautiful Atlantic sunrise. One of the perks of (US) Atlantic coasts are the beautiful sunrises we have! I am less familiar with Tchami as an artist but he sounds like a decent house music DJ and producer based on what I heard in this set. I plan to give his latest album “Year Zero” a listen now.
I have been to Miami a number of times as a trip destination as well as just passing through. I’m going to do my best to recall all of these times, but it will be difficult!
I first visited in 2002 for a video game tournament in nearby Dania Beach. I did not explore the city.
I visited again in 2008 just to reach the airport en route to a friend’s destination wedding at Breezes resort in Nassau, Bahamas. Again, I did not explore the city.
I visited in 2012 for a training opportunity for my work. I did spend at least an afternoon in Miami Beach. I distinctly remember this trip for a couple reasons:
- I was introduced to musician Zedd by way of his incredible album “Clarity” which was recently released
- I accidentally paid $50 for a single margarita. Granted, it was a fancy margarita with a Corona in it, but the bill certainly came as a shock.
I also recall there was a portion of the beach that allowed topless folks, and some of those folks who chose to be topless really shouldn’t have. Welcome to Miami!
My wife and I came on down in 2018 for Justin Timberlake’s “Man of the Woods” tour at AmericanAirlines Arena. He did not disappoint–he is quite the entertainer! We were unable to enjoy South Beach due to crappy weather–it rained a lot that weekend. We still took a trip to the nearby Brickell City Centre and tried to enjoy ourselves.
I came down again in 2019 for another work event hosted on the SEAFAIR megayacht which was docked right outside the InterContinental hotel. This proved to be pretty incredible as the weather was perfect and the trip on this yacht provided excellent scenery.
What I have yet to do, and want to, is really kick my feet up and enjoy South Beach. Every time I have come down (except to see Justin Timberlake) has had some sort of purpose or agenda. That trip with Justin was ruined due to weather specifically as it pertains to experiencing the beach. At some point, I need to schedule another trip when the sun will be out to really see what South Beach has to offer.
Just FYI, the title is a reference to this song “Miami” by Will Smith from year 1998:
